Swag Talk: Zara Suits

If you’re in need of a dapper outfit for a special occasion, look no further – Zara’s men’s suiting collection will take you to very fashionable heights. As you probably know by now, I’m a huge fan of Zara. In my opinion, their quality and sophisticated design reign supreme compared to many other retailers – it’s also not a secret that Zara has a knack for taking luxury designer looks and making them their own for a much lesser cost. Zara’s men’s line in general is very sophisticated and European – it takes a certain person to carry that look off, and is definitely not to everyone’s taste – but their suiting is definitely worth stopping in to check out.

I’m a huge fan of suits – they’re kind of my weakness. They’re universally flattering (for the most part), and generally make every guy look his best. I love the classic black-&-white-suit-with-slim-black-tie combination, but then again I can’t say that well-fitting suits in general aren’t nice to look at. Here are some of my favorites from Zara’s online store, anywhere from $150 – $250ish:

Some of Zara’s best in suiting.

I definitely recommend stopping by Zara for your next suit – make sure you get the right fit! Baggy suits are a no-no.

Swag Talk: My Favorite Denim Brands x Aritzia

My two favorite brands of jeans – J Brand and rag & bone – have recently collaborated with Aritzia to create some amazing colored jeans for the fall season.

The fit, comfort, design and style of rag & bone and J Brand jeans make them my absolute favorite denim to wear. There are few brands that I can count on to meet my jean needs – these two never cease to amaze me. They’ve partnered up with Aritzia to release several different colors of skinny jeans that will be great in the upcoming Fall weather.

I love the distressed black pair by rag & bone (bottom left) – I’ve tried them on and for some reason, they run really small compared to their regular jeans – not sure why. I have some rag & bone’s in a similar blue and emerald green color, and I must say that they’ve been a great addition to my closet. The deep red colors are really pretty too, and a great warm hue for fall.

I would definitely recommend picking up a pair or two to add to your jean wardrobe. What do you think of the collaboration? Let me know in the comments section.

Is The Swag Right: Fred Perry Clothing

I have known about this brand for close to three years now and since the beginning, I’ve been impressed by Fred Perry designs. This opinion hasn’t changed over the years, but it has grown even stronger. Fred Perry is an English company, but their presence is felt all over the world. Through their clothing and merchandise, you can tell that they pride themselves on authenticity, simplicity and integrity.

My personal favorites from Fred Perry are their tops – this consists of anything from a shirt to a sweater, etc. Their designs are plain and simple for the most part, while sometimes they blend two colors together; all in all these items are masterfully made. The material itself feels like heaven and their fits are great – I do find that they run a tad bit smaller than other brands, though.

For me, the greatest thing about Fred Perry is their logo. The laurel wreath is something that is known across the world, and it’s a beautifully constructed. The brand doesn’t tend to go overboard with its items and that’s what keeps it alive. People love the simple things that are easy on the eye. Although their designs are understated, they adds a sense of sophistication to your look. I mean what man doesn’t like to look decent in a nice short sleeve polo right?

If you’re looking for some new shirts, you should most definitely take a look at Fred Perry and discover something new if you aren’t familiar with them.

Trend Watch: Comic Book Fashion

Comic books have influenced Fall fashion in a major way thanks to 3.1 Phillip Lim. I definitely want to get my hands on a thing or two from this trend.

3.1 Phillip Lim is paying homage to the classic “The Break Up” comic in their latest collection; below are some of the items available on Net-a-Porter. The pieces are bright, serving as the perfect pop of color and conversation piece for your outfit.

While looking over SoleStruck the other day for my post on the Jeffrey Campbell ‘Cleata’ shoe, I came across this Black Milk x Jeffrey Campbell collaboration, which features comic book-print heels. Black Milk is the Australian brand responsible for the majority of those galactic-print leggings, swimsuits, bodysuits, dresses, and other accessories you’ve seen in that recent outer-space trend. I think it’s safe to say that Jeffrey Campbell needs no introduction at this point, but the combination of the two was much-anticipated and highly lucrative.

My favorites are the Night Lita, Damsel and the Lita Fab, all featured in the “Sick of Men” comic print. I definitely think this is a trend and collaboration worth indulging in.

The Routine For Picking An Outfit

So you wake up in the morning and you wonder ” What am I going to wear today?” right? These decisions can be stressful and take up a lot of time in the morning when you’re tired, so I’m here to try and guide you to make it easier on yourself.

To begin with, I believe the foundation for any outfit should be your footwear. Once you get that established you can start moving up. What you decide to put on your feet is very important as your outfits revolve around it the majority of time, so make the wise decision with your selection.

Second has to be your top/hoody/jacket. I say so because after your shoes go on your feet everything else has to start falling in place, and you will be needing a top to compliment your sneakers. Choose something that is able to either match or contrast with the footwear.

Then we have the jeans/pants/shorts. This is basically what seals the deal, what seals the outfit. You can decide whether you’re going to wear some nice denim, camo shorts, khaki pants or etc to go along with what your outfit is already.

To finish off the deal, you can add to your pot of ingredients already with the addition of accessories, a hat, shades/glasses or just something small that will add a little “oomph” to your outfit.

Once you have these all down-packed, you should be ready to hit the town and show off your gear.

The What-Not’s-To-Wear Of The Winter: Footwear Edition

I came up with a list of some fashion items that will be worn in the winter although they probably shouldn’t. The death of these trends is the main reason as to why they shouldn’t be worn. This list has been a long time coming, and I’m sure you may disagree or agree with some of the items. Feel free to let me know what you think.

  • Uggs

You probably saw this one coming, as its surely time for people – mainly women – to start retiring this boot. Uggs have had an exceptional run and seen a lot of success for a while now. The numbers of people that I have seen wearing these boots are incredible – they were one of the biggest trends in the last few years but it’s time to hang them up. One main reason for this is the frequent use of Ugg boots in the summer. Come on, it’s already so hot and then you have the audacity on top of that to wear boots? I don’t get it, and it’s not justified by the shoe being so comfortable. It’s okay to wear them from time to time, but I can’t deal with seeing these boots everyday anymore.

  • Nike Boots

Next up we have the Nike Air Max Goadome Boot better known as the Nike Boot. Yes this shoe is very durable, yes it is ideal for winter conditions, and yes it will help you survive in the snow but it’s time to say goodbye to them. These are another victim when it comes to people abusing this shoe and using them all throughout the year. These shoes are so bulky, they aren’t really attractive or stylish and they remind me of a tank. I think there are many more options out there when it comes to boots, people just have to explore. To many, the meaning of these shoes to DC natives is unknown – for this I believe they should be the only ones who still have license to wear these shoes.

  • Toms

I don’t even know why I should have to put these on the list but it’s necessary. Last winter I saw so many people wearing their Toms in the winter and I never understood why. Were they trying to make the trend last longer? Were they trying to be a winter trendsetter? Or were just being lazy to put on suitable shoes for the colder conditions? I don’t have the answers for these questions but I can surely say that these shouldn’t be worn in the winter. They don’t protect your feet from anything, nor do they keep your feet warm – imagine how silly you would look with wet Toms on your feet. This is strictly a summer shoe. I understand that I don’t set any rules or standards, but I truly feel like they shouldn’t be worn in low temperature conditions at all.

Sound off.

Fashion Individuality

What is it to be an individual? It is for you to be yourself. With that being said when related to fashion, it’s the same blueprint. Be yourself and be beautiful. With so many trends and pressures in the fashion world, it gets difficult for some people to truly tap into their fashion individuality. People struggle at times with distinguishing between what they really want to wear and their fear of looking up-to-date with trends. In these moments, you must put your fashion creativity and style on full display. People don’t get paid to wear trends, so why waste your money on things that you don’t fit your style, when you can wear what you actually like?

At the end of the day, some people are afraid to be ridiculed if they decide to wear something that might not be “in” at the moment. People care too much about someone else’s opinion when it comes to fashion. Sure, you might get a few looks while you walk down the street wearing an outlandish outfit – but that doesn’t mean you should be afraid to wear what your heart is telling you to. It’s only when you accept this that you truly become one with your style.

Someone may be able to say that your style is terrible or spectacular but at the end of the day, who are they to speak? We all have likes and dislikes when it comes to other people’s fashion (let alone our own), but who cares? There is no one out there in the world that knows exactly what’s stylish and what isn’t. People only have opinions but everyone has originality. Delve into yourself to figure out your fashion style, and then grace the world with it.

Swag Talk: Kenzo Sweatshirts

Often forgot about Japanese brand Kenzo has made their way to the iLikeSwag radar since releasing these sweatshirts.

Kenzo’s been around forever now, but you’ve probably not heard of this Japanese fashion house since they tend to stay out of the spotlight. A subsidiary of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, if you don’t know by now), Kenzo’s made its mark in the fashion industry with unconventional designs and prints. They’re back on the map within the younger, hip fashion crowd since the launch of the very popular lion-faced, Eiffel Tower, and logo sweatshirts.

I especially love that green lion-faced sweatshirt, as well as the opulent, rich red one seen in the Kenzo advertisement that’s hit the pages of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Like most things that I tend to gravitate toward, these sweatshirts are going for a pretty penny – that red one I’m in love with is $873 – yikes! But if you’ve got it like that & are willing to drop that much on this neo-Cosby cool sweater, more power to you.

The Parisian Eiffel Tower one (seen on our girl Rih) is nice as well, but reminds me a bit of my grade school uniform for some reason. It’s safe to say that this Kenzo sweatshirt collection is going to be seen on all the too-cool-for-you girls, giving me more reason to wish that I was one of them!

Lust Luxe: Valentino ‘Revealing’ Bootie

We can all thank the fashion gods, including Mr. Valentino himself, for the permanence of studs in this fashion house’s collections. The Valentino ‘Revealing’ Bootie is keeping my heart warm for the time being, and is one of my current lust luxes of the moment.

As you may know by now, shoes that are studded with some sort of a cutout – that still remain classy – are an automatic “yes, I need these now” item for me. This Valentino bootie is no exception.

The Revealing bootie is the perfect intersection of the beyond amazing T-strap pump with a short boot, a now-classic Fall staple. With a fairly reasonable heel (3.75″) and a patent leather & suede upper, these could transition into virtually any outfit. I absolutely love the little cut-out at the back of the ankle – I think it adds an edge and youthfulness to a shoe (and brand) that’s been largely adopted by a more mature crowd.

At $1,195, I’m  not sure these are a realistic prospect – I guess that’s why they’re considered a ‘luxe’ at the moment! My closet and I would wholeheartedly embrace these if the price was right… a girl can dream!

My Picks: [Faux] Leather Leggings

As a result of my undying love for leather and leggings, I deemed it critical to share with you some of my favorite faux & genuine leather leggings of the season.

This pair screams “I’m inappropriate for most daytime settings” and I love that about them. I love anything that seems like it would be difficult to wear during the day time, worn in the day time. Pair these with a nude heel/sandal and a neutral blazer and you’d be transported to Chicville in no time. I absolutely love these, and see no reason for them not to mysteriously appear in my closet.

Paige Denim ‘Paloma’ Leather Legging

Though they’re on the more expensive side, this pair of Paige leggings is made of genuine leather rather than the faux variety. What I love about this pair is that they’re both fashionable and functional – a party in the front and all-business in the back, so to speak, because they’re made of both leather and knit spandex (in the back). These are the most practical leather leggings you could buy, as they’ll conform better to your shape (thanks to the spandex) while still looking like an all-leather legging from the front. What’s not to love about that?!

AG Adriano Goldschmied Faux-Leather Leggings

The perfect, sexy-but-classic faux leather legging courtesy of AG. Completely on-trend yet still animal friendly, this faux-leather legging is pretty much the best wardrobe staple you could have in your closet this Fall. I’m not personally familiar with the fit of AG jeans, but I’ve heard the sizing can be tricky at times, so be sure to try this pair on in person rather than ordering them online.

J Brand Jeans ‘L8001 Cognac Leather Super Skinny Pants’

The absolutely gorgeous but fiscally unrealistic J Brand Cognac leather pant is definitely a lust of mine. At almost $1,000 (when you include tax), they’re not something I’ll be able to purchase but are beautiful and a must-have nonetheless. This ruddy brown leather is so easy-on-the-eyes, feminine and easy to integrate into a neutral colored outfit that it’s a shame this pair is so expensive. With a soft oatmeal-colored oversized sweater and some short booties? I’d be in heaven.

Parker Faux Leather Pant in Teal

I absolutely love how this pair of Parker teal faux-leather leggings was styled – in an earthy yet glamorous, muted but flashy way. This pair would seamlessly transition you from a chic day look to a great going-out outfit, and would probably end up expanding your wardrobe in a very big way. With sweaters or dainty tops like the one on the model, this Parker pair is a must-have.
